Ilocos norte: The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) in Ilocos Norte successfully achieved its PHP259 million collection target for May, largely due to compliance among taxpayers, according to Revenue District Officer Esperanza Guzman. Guzman expressed gratitude towards government agencies, private companies, and individual taxpayers for their timely payments, which contributed to meeting the collection goal despite some national government agencies, such as the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), not yet making remittances.
According to Philippines News Agency, Guzman is optimistic about meeting the PHP400 million collection target for June. She mentioned plans to intensify enforcement activities and improve taxpayer services to reach this goal. The BIR's strategy includes both enhancing compliance and offering better service to taxpayers.
In a related development, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. extended the deadline for filing the 2025 Annual Income Tax Returns (AITR) by one month, moving it to May 15. This extension aims to provide taxpayers with additional time to correctly file and submit their required documents without incurring penalties.
Currently, BIR Ilocos Norte has reported fewer than 20 delinquent taxpayers seeking discounts. Guzman mentioned that they are exploring ways to assist these taxpayers in settling their obligations. Additionally, BIR clients in the province are encouraged to use the online platform for efficient service but are advised to remain cautious to avoid scams.
