BJMP and City Health Office Collaborate on Medical Outreach for Puerto Princesa Inmates

Puerto Princesa: The Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) at the Puerto Princesa City Jail, in partnership with the City Health Office (CHO), organized a comprehensive medical and dental outreach mission on May 29. This initiative aimed to enhance the health and well-being of persons deprived of liberty (PDL) within the facility.

According to Philippines News Agency, the event, titled "Tarabidan sa Kalusugan" (Tara sa Barangay, Ilapit at Dalhin Serbisyong Pangkalusugan), focused on making healthcare services accessible to the PDL. During the mission, inmates received free medical consultations, medications, and laboratory tests, including urinalysis, fasting blood sugar, and cholesterol screening.

Additionally, the City Health Office addressed the dental care needs of female PDL by providing dental consultations and tooth extractions utilizing the Department of Health (DOH) Dental Health Bus. All necessary resources, such as medicines and dental supplies, were supplied by the CHO.

Ana, a 38-year-old female PDL, expressed her gratitude, stating, "Sa mga health providers at sa BJMP, taos-puso po ang aming pasasalamat. Dahil sa inyong malasakit at dedikasyon, kami po ay muling nabigyan ng pag-asa at lakas," which translates to, "To the health providers and the BJMP, we express our sincere gratitude. Because of your concern and dedication, we have been given hope and strength again."

BJMP Mimaropa Regional Information Officer Jail Officer 3 Joefrie Anglo emphasized that this collaborative effort highlights their commitment to the health and rehabilitation of PDL. It aligns with their broader mandate to provide comprehensive health services, including medical assessments, health education, and counseling, to all individuals under their custody.

Anglo further noted that the outreach program demonstrates the BJMP's dedication to fostering partnerships with local government units. This collaboration ensures the holistic development and rehabilitation of PDL, preparing them for reintegration into society upon their release.
