BJMP and DTI Highlight PDL-Made Products at Odiongan Jail

Odiongan: Products handcrafted by persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) at the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) Odiongan District Jail were showcased on Monday as part of efforts to promote livelihood opportunities and strengthen rehabilitation initiatives inside jail facilities.

According to Philippines News Agency, the product exhibit was conducted in partnership with the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) through its One Town, One Product program. It highlighted various PDL-made items, showcasing the participants' skills, creativity, and productivity during rehabilitation.

Conducted under the guidance of Acting District Jail Warden Senior Insp. Rowena Olivar, the activity underscored the continuing partnership between BJMP and government agencies in creating sustainable opportunities for PDLs. Olivar stated that the initiative aims to provide PDLs with opportunities for personal development and income generation while preparing them for eventual reintegration into society.

BJMP MIMAROPA spokesperson JO3 Joefrie Anglo emphasized that livelihood-based interventions remain among the agency's key strategies in promoting restorative programs and reducing recidivism among persons under BJMP custody. Anglo highlighted that the initiative demonstrates that rehabilitation goes beyond confinement by equipping PDLs with practical skills and providing avenues to showcase their talents.

BJMP stated that partnerships with stakeholders such as DTI continue to expand rehabilitation initiatives aimed at promoting self-reliance, hope, and successful community reintegration among PDLs.
