Blazers demolish Heavy Bombers to keep solo NCAA lead

Manila: College of Saint Benilde stamped its class over Jose Rizal University, 80-65, to keep the lead in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Season 100 men's basketball at FilOil EcoOil Centre in San Juan City on Sunday. Ian Torres fired three triples to finish with 16 points, two assists and two steals in leading the Blazers to their fourth straight win and 10th overall against two losses. Allen Liwag chipped in 12 points, 11 rebounds, three assists and one steal, while Justine Sanchez had 10 points for CSB, which also prevailed over JRU, 84-69, on Oct. 6. The Blazers who posted their biggest lead at 73-40 in the fourth quarter. They are aiming for the top two spots in the Final Four to enjoy a twice-to-beat incentive. Joshua Guiab delivered 17 points, three rebounds, three assists and two steals for JRU, now at 3-9 in a tie with San Sebastian College-Recoletos. Shawn Argente contributed 14 points, three rebounds and two assists, while Marvin Raymundo had 13 points, five assists, three steals, two rebounds and two blocks for the Heavy Bombers. Scheduled to play on Tuesday are Letran against San Sebastian at 11 a.m. and Arellano University against University of Perpetual Help at 2:30 p.m. Letran, Lyceum of the Philippines University and Emilio Aguinaldo College are tied for third at 6-6 followed by Perpetual (5-7) and Arellano (4-8).
