Mandaluyong city: De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde defeated Mapua, 19-25, 25-22, 25-21, 25-21, to kick off its V-League Collegiate Challenge campaign at Gameville Central Park in Mandaluyong City on Saturday. Opposite hitter Reymark Betco delivered 22 points, including 18 attacks, four blocks, and three digs. Rocky Motol chipped in 14 points while team captain Chris Villanueva anchored the offense with 16 excellent sets for the reigning National Collegiate Athletic Association champion.

According to Philippines News Agency, Benilde's long-time coach, Arnold Laniog, mentioned that the team had a pause in training from Sunday to Tuesday, with Wednesday being a light session due to their recent trip to Boracay. Despite this, Laniog emphasized the importance of maintaining focus and representing the school well. Ar-Jay Ramos led the losing Cardinals with 16 points and 22 receptions, followed by Patrick Reyes with 10 points and five digs.

Benilde is set to face Arellano University at 10 a.m. while Mapua will meet De La Salle University at noon on Sunday. In another match, Colegio de San Juan de Letran outlasted University Athletic Association of the Philippines champion holder National University, 29-31, 26-24, 17-25, 25-18, 15-11. Dave Thomas Lardizabal finished with 22 points on 18 attacks and four blocks, while Maximuz Paolo Lopez contributed 17 points for the Knights.
