Manila: The government generated nearly PHP33.5 million from the recent negotiated sale of abandoned and forfeited goods, including two luxury cars, the Bureau of Customs (BOC) said Saturday. In a statement, the BOC said the public auction conducted on July 30 concluded with seven of the 13 sale lots with accepted offers.

According to Philippines News Agency, the successful sale lots consisted of various seized and forfeited goods, including one 2018 Lexus LX570 for PHP2 million, one 2012 Nissan Murano for PHP115,000, one Hyundai Grand Starex GL for PHP110,000, premium and regular gasoline for PHP200,000, flat glass for PHP352,000, and 35 packages of steel wire for PHP352,000. Among the sale lots, the highest offer during the proceeding was recorded for a 2024 Ferrari SF90 Stradale (Mansory), which received an offer of PHP30.1 million.

The BOC stated that this initiative supports President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s directive to promote transparent and accountable governance while maximizing government resources for the benefit of the Filipino people. The negotiated sale remains subject to the approval of the Secretary of Finance pursuant to the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act. Once approved, proceeds from the negotiated sale, amounting to PHP33,499,000, will be remitted to the Bureau of the Treasury.

The BOC emphasized that the activity is part of its continuing efforts to ensure the lawful, transparent, and efficient disposition of abandoned and forfeited goods in accordance with existing customs laws, rules, and regulations. Commissioner Ariel Nepomuceno highlighted the BOC's commitment to transparent, decisive, and efficient customs administration, expressing gratitude to all contributors and offerors involved in the successful sale. "We will continue to strengthen our processes to further improve our service and deliver greater benefits to the government and the Filipino people," he said.
