Manila: The Board of Investments (BOI) reported Friday that its investment approvals from July 2022 to April 2025 reached PHP3.54 trillion, which created 147,304 jobs for Filipinos. From July to December 2022, investment pledges in BOI amounted to PHP499 billion, accounting for nearly 70 percent of the total approvals in 2022. Investment approvals in 2023 reached PHP1.26 trillion, and further rose to PHP1.62 trillion in 2024. For the first four months of 2025, BOI has approved some PHP158 billion of investments.
According to Philippines News Agency, these record-breaking figures highlight the Philippines' sound investment policies and its appeal as a regional hub, as stated by Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Secretary and BOI chair Ma. Cristina Roque. The success is attributed to the strong leadership and clear directive of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. to foster an innovation-driven economy through high-quality investments that create jobs, enhance infrastructure, and boost global competitiveness.
The DTI noted that the issuance of Executive Order No. 18 by Marcos, which established the Green Lane for Strategic Investments, has facilitated the entry of investments into the country. As of May 27, the BOI's One-Stop Action Center for Strategic Investments issued green lane certificates to 208 projects, totaling PHP5.2 trillion.
Roque emphasized that under President Marcos' administration, the focus is on meaningful transformation rather than just numbers. Through strategic policy direction and comprehensive government coordination, the foundations for long-term, inclusive, and innovation-led growth are being established.
Despite an anticipated slowdown in investment flows this year due to external factors like tighter global financial conditions and geopolitical uncertainty, Roque mentioned that the Philippine government is actively holding roadshows for the Corporate Recovery and Tax Incentives for Enterprises to Maximize Opportunities for Reinvigorating the Economy (CREATE MORE) Act. This initiative aims to attract foreign investors to establish and expand their businesses in the country.
