Darwin: The Philippine Navy's Naval Defense Command (NDC) announced that its guided missile frigate, BRP Diego Silang (FFG-7), along with its naval contingent, has safely arrived in Darwin, Australia for the "International Fleet Review" (IFR) and this year's iteration of the Multilateral Naval Exercise "Kakadu."

According to Philippines News Agency, the NDC confirmed that the ship and all personnel aboard landed in Darwin on March 4, after departing from the Naval Operating Base Subic in Zambales on March 2. The Philippine Navy contingent, known as Naval Task Group 80.6, is set to participate in a range of activities scheduled from March 8 to March 30.

"(These are) part of active involvement on biennial multilateral exercise designed to enhance multilateral maritime cooperation, strengthen capabilities on humanitarian assistance and disaster relief, search and rescue and develop interoperability between allied Navies," the NDC explained.

Upon their arrival, Naval Task Group 80.6 began engaging with participating navies through a friendly sports event aimed at promoting camaraderie and building stronger bonds among partner nations. This event provided sailors with an opportunity to interact and establish professional relationships in preparation for the impending maritime activities.

"The contingent also conducted a pre-sail brief to ensure the readiness of officers and crew prior to the commencement of sea-phase activities. The briefing covered operational coordination, safety protocols, and mission objectives in support of the multinational exercise," the NDC added.

BRP Diego Silang is also scheduled to participate in additional sea events and harbor activities in Sydney, Australia in the coming days. "The active participation in IFR and Exercise KAKADU 2026 demonstrates the Philippine Navy's steadfast commitment to regional maritime cooperation, strengthening partnership with allied and partner navies in the Indo-Pacific Region," the NDC concluded.
