Muntinlupa city: The Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) released 1,004 persons deprived of liberty (PDL) from June 13 to July 3, bringing to 24,583 the total released under the administration of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.
According to Philippines News Agency, BuCor Director General Gregorio Pio Catapang Jr. stated that the PDL released were either acquitted, granted probations or habeas corpus grants; paroled; posted cash and bail bonds; or had expired sentences.
The released PDL were from various facilities including the Correctional Institution for Women (CIW) with 52 releases, Iwahig Prison and Penal Farm (IPPF) with 109, CIW-IPPF with 1, CIW- Mindanao with 10, Davao Prison and Penal Farm with 136, Leyte Regional Prison with 50, New Bilibid Prison (NBP) with 256, NBP-Maximum with 79, NBP-Medium with 62, NBP-Minimum with 17, NBP-Reception and Diagnostic Center with 9, Sablayan Prison and Penal Farm with 110, and San Ramon Prison and Penal Farm with 113.
Meanwhile, Justice Secretary Crispin Remulla led the inauguration and turnover of the Bureau of Immigration Warden Facility at the BuCor compound in Muntinlupa City. This facility will serve as a temporary holding area for foreign nationals undergoing deportation proceedings.
The 1,260-square-meter facility is located at the Muntinlupa Juvenile Training Center barracks inside the NBP Reservation. Catapang mentioned that BuCor is allocating one hectare (10,000 square meters) of its property for Bureau of Immigration use.
