Bulacan Holds Unity Walk and Peace Covenant Signing for Safe Elections

Bulacan: For the purpose of achieving credible and fair elections on May 12 in Bulacan province, candidates and various stakeholders participated in a unity walk, an interfaith prayer, and a peace covenant signing on Wednesday morning.

According to Philippines News Agency, aside from the candidates, others who joined the program were local government officials, as well as officials and representatives from the Commission on Elections, Philippine National Police, Armed Forces of the Philippines, Bureau of Fire Protection, and Department of Education.

"Other stakeholders also attended with the aim of maintaining the integrity and orderliness of the elections," lawyer Mona Ann Aldana-Campos, provincial election supervisor, said. She added that the activities "aim to ensure the solidarity of the candidates for a clean, safe, peaceful, and fair elections."

The program began with the unity walk, a march that symbolized the commitment of each participant to maintain peace before and after the elections. After the march, an interfaith prayer was held at the historic Barasoain Church as a call for divine guidance and wisdom, followed by a covenant signing involving the candidates and the stakeholders.

Gubernatorial candidates, namely incumbent Governor Daniel Fernando, former governor Wilhelmino Sy-Alvarado, and Salvador "Bogs" Violago led the program.
