Bulldogs Secure Sixth Consecutive UAAP Volleyball Championship

Pasay city: National University (NU) clinched its sixth consecutive UAAP men's volleyball title by defeating Far Eastern University (FEU) with scores of 26-24, 25-22, 25-22 in Game 2 of the finals at the Mall of Asia Arena. This victory marks the Bulldogs' eighth overall title, placing them fourth in the division over the past 11 seasons.

According to Philippines News Agency, Leo Ordiales was the standout performer for NU, scoring 24 points and earning the Finals Most Valuable Player (MVP) award. Ordiales, who also received the Best Opposite Spiker award earlier, expressed that the MVP accolade was a bonus, as the team's primary goal was achieving a six-peat victory. Ordiales had previously contributed significantly in Game 1 with 22 points, including 20 attacks and two blocks.

Jade Disquitado also made substantial contributions with 13 points, 15 receptions, and five digs, while Michaelo Buddin added eight points and 17 receptions. Team captain Peng Taguibolos scored seven points, notably with five blocks, and middle blocker Obed Mukaba secured six points, sealing the match in one hour and 28 minutes. NU coach Dante Alinsunurin acknowledged the team's challenges during the eliminations but expressed gratitude for the support and trust from the players and coaching staff.

FEU's Mikko Espartero managed 17 points with 14 attacks, two aces, and a block, while Amet Bituin added 10 points and nine receptions. The Tamaraws finished second for the second consecutive season, with NU maintaining a 4-0 record against them in finals matchups since 2013.

In other news, University of Santo Tomas (UST) outside spiker Josh Yba±ez was named season MVP for the third time, achieving a league-best 90.192 statistical points. Despite missing individual awards in Season 87 due to injuries, Yba±ez expressed that the MVP recognition served as motivation rather than pressure. Buddin also received a Best Outside Spiker award, while De La Salle University's Issa Ousseini and Mendoza were recognized as Best Middle Blockers. Additional accolades went to FEU's Ariel Cacao (Best Setter) and Vennie Ceballos (Best Libero), and Adamson University's Richard Besorio was honored as Rookie of the Year.
