Manila: The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) said upgrading of the air traffic management system early Monday was successfully completed. "There were no flights delayed/affected during software update from 12:30 a.m. to 3:00 a.m.," CAAP spokesperson Eric Apolonio said in a Viber message. In a news release, the CAAP said all airport operations resumed as normal at 3:01 a.m., and the temporary flow control measures were lifted at 3:05 a.m. The upgrading of the Communications, Navigation, Surveillance/Air Traffic Management (CNS/ATM) system was completed 2:47 a.m. "Throughout the upgrade, (CAAP) effectively managed air traffic during a critical system upgrade of its CNS/ATM system, as international overflights safely traversed the Philippine Flight Information Region under procedural control provided by the Manila Area Control Center. All departures and arrivals nationwide were efficiently managed, ensuring that flights reached their destinations safely and on time," CAAP's release reads. The CNS/ATM enables aircraft to transmit accurate locations for takeoffs, landings, and air traffic control. Its upgrade includes the installation and launch of an updated ATM system software. CAAP earlier said the upgrade would result in more efficient air traffic operations, reduced delays, and an overall smoother experience for both airlines and passengers.
