Isabela: The temporary passageway that will replace the collapsed span of the Cabagan-Santa Maria Bridge in Isabela province is nearing completion, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) reported Thursday. DPWH Secretary Vince Dizon stated that the construction of the structure is 89 percent complete.

According to Philippines News Agency, Dizon mentioned that they aim to open the passageway to light vehicles in March, following President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s directive to expedite the repair of the damaged bridge. This move is intended to resolve the disruptions in livelihoods and public services in the area caused by the bridge collapse.

On February 27, 2025, a 60-meter span of the bridge collapsed when a dump truck exceeding the 45-ton weight limit tried to cross, resulting in injuries to at least six people and damage to several vehicles. The structure, originally completed on February 1, 2025, had a project cost of PHP1.22 billion and construction began in November 2014.

Meanwhile, Dizon visited Sitio Akliyan, Bongabong, Oriental Mindoro on February 19 to assess the situation of a patchwork makeshift bridge and plan for a more durable and safer concrete crossing for residents. In response to safety concerns, the President has also ordered the repair of hanging bridges in remote areas nationwide, aiming to ensure the safety of residents living near rivers and low-lying areas.
