Manila: The completion of the Cavite-Laguna Expressway (CALAX) is anticipated to contribute to a reduction in food prices by enhancing transportation efficiency.
According to Philippines News Agency, Palace Press Officer and Presidential Communications Undersecretary Claire Castro discussed the potential impact of CALAX during a press briefing. This followed President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s inspection of the ongoing construction of CALAX Subsection 3, known as the Governor's Drive Interchange in Cavite province. Currently 44 percent complete, this interchange is projected to be operational by the third quarter of 2025.
Castro emphasized that the timely completion of CALAX is expected to lead to lower commodity prices by facilitating the efficient transportation of food products. She highlighted the benefits of reduced travel time and fuel consumption, underscoring the positive impact on those transporting food and other necessities.
The 8.64-kilometer segment will connect the Silang (Aguinaldo) Interchange to Governor's Drive in General Trias, Cavite, improving mobility and reducing congestion in the Calabarzon region. This new segment aims to enhance CALAX's connectivity, offering faster travel to General Trias and surrounding areas, while alleviating traffic on Governor's Drive and Aguinaldo Highway.
Once fully completed, CALAX will span 45 kilometers from Mamplasan Rotunda in Laguna to Kawit, Cavite, seamlessly integrating with major expressways to connect Cavite, Laguna, and Metro Manila. The expressway will link with the Manila-Cavite Expressway (CAVITEX) in Kawit, providing a more efficient route for approximately 95,000 motorists traveling daily between these regions.
