SIBU, The Sibu Chinese Calligraphy Society will be organising the Unity Arts Carnival 2024 at the RH Hotel here on Oct 19 and 20. This cultural event, celebrating Sarawak's rich diversity and artistic traditions, will showcase the beauty of unity through art. It aims to bring communities together to celebrate Chinese and Arabic calligraphy alongside cultural performances. Society president Hii Pee Long said the event is sponsored by the Sarawak Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts, facilitated with funds from the 'Dana Mudahcara Warisan, Kesenian dan Kebudayaan Sarawak' and supported by the Sibu branch of Sarawak State Library, RH Hotel and Hidayah Centre Foundation. "This year's theme, 'Celebrating Unity Through Art' focuses on the harmonious blending of Chinese and Arabic calligraphy, symbolising how different cultural traditions can co-exist and enrich each other. "The event will provide a unique opportunity for the community to come together, share traditions and explore the rich ness of Sarawak's artistic and culinary heritage," he told reporters here today. The event highlights will be Chinese and Arabic Calligraphy Competitions, Exhibition of Chinese and Arabic Calligraphy, Cultural Performances, Indoor Night Bazaar, Fusion Music Concert and Artisan Market and Workshops. For the calligraphy competition, Hii said talented calligraphers from across Sarawak will showcase their skills, with participants competing in open, secondary school and non-Chinese categories. Meanwhile, the exhibition will feature works from master calligraphers, providing insights into the cultural significance and beauty of calligraphy as an art form.
