Camiguin and Bukidnon PDLs Receive P1.03-Million Training for Livelihood Support

Camiguin: The Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) 10 and the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) 10 have signed a PHP1.03 million agreement aimed at enhancing the productivity of Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDLs) in Northern Mindanao.

According to Philippines News Agency, the memorandum of agreement (MOA) was signed on Thursday by officials and representatives of BJMP-10 and DOST-10. This initiative is set to benefit more than 100 PDLs in the jail facilities located in the island province of Camiguin and Valencia City, Bukidnon.

DOST-10 Assistant Director Vincent Banal stated that the program will include skills training and enterprise development for the PDLs. He highlighted that male PDLs in Valencia City have been encouraged to participate in these training opportunities.

Banal further mentioned that PDLs in Camiguin will receive training in the production of malunggay (moringa) cookies, with support from the University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines.

BJMP-10 Director Felixberto Jagorin Jr. expressed the agency's commitment to supporting initiatives that help PDLs acquire livelihood skills, allowing them to earn while in detention and utilize these abilities upon rejoining society.
