Caraga Fisherfolk Receive 4.2 Million Fingerlings from BFAR

Caraga: Over 4.2 million fingerlings of fish species, including tilapia, milkfish, carp, and hito, have been distributed by the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources in the Caraga Region (BFAR-13) to 47 fisherfolk organizations across the region. Data provided by BFAR-13 to the Philippine News Agency indicated that these fingerlings were distributed to the groups between January and May of this year.

According to Philippines News Agency, the distributions were conducted under the Fisheries Development Program of BFAR, specifically through its Aquaculture Fisheries sub-program. The initiative has directly benefited approximately 574 fisherfolk members from the beneficiary associations. Of the total fingerlings distributed, 2.560 million were tilapia, 546,000 were milkfish, and 1.206 million comprised carp and hito.

BFAR-13 stated that these fingerlings were produced locally by three technology stations managed by the agency. These stations include the Kitcharao Technology Outreach Station in Agusan del Norte, the Masao Technology Outreach Station in Butuan City, and the Placer Technology Outreach Station in Surigao del Norte.
