Caraga’s Second Mpox Case Confirmed in Dinagat Islands

Dinagat islands: The second case of mpox (monkeypox) in the Caraga Region has been confirmed in Dinagat Islands province, local health officials disclosed Friday. In a report, the Dinagat Provincial Health Office (PHO) said the patient had traveled to Davao City and South Cotabato multiple times in May. During the last week of that month, the patient sought medical care after exhibiting signs and symptoms of mpox.

According to Philippines News Agency, the case has been reported in Davao City and through the Philippine Integrated Disease Surveillance and Response System in Davao City. Following the confirmation of mpox infection, the patient was isolated and received treatment at a local medical center last month, fully recovering by June 30.

The patient's immediate close contacts have also been closely monitored by health authorities in Dinagat, and none have shown signs or symptoms of mpox infection, the PHO added. The PHO urged residents to continue following the health protocols outlined in an order issued by Governor Nilo Demerey Jr. on May 26. This order details the guidelines for the prevention, detection, isolation, and management of mpox in the province.
