Cardinal David Denies Endorsement Claims for Senatorial Candidates

Kalookan: The Roman Catholic Bishop of Kalookan has refuted claims circulating online that Cardinal Pablo Virgilio David is endorsing national candidates for the upcoming May 12 midterm elections. The Diocese of Kalookan has branded the online post as fake, emphasizing that neither the Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) nor Cardinal David is supporting any political candidates.

According to Philippines News Agency, a fabricated two-page letter, allegedly bearing the CBCP letterhead and the signature of Cardinal David, has been making rounds online. This letter purportedly urges the faithful to vote for a list of senatorial candidates including Ronald Dela Rosa, Bong Go, Rodante Marcoleta, Raul Lambino, Philip Salvador, Willy Revillame, Imee Marcos, Vic Rodriguez, Camille Villar, Jimmy Bondoc, Manny Pacquiao, and Bam Aquino.

In response to the misinformation, CBCP Secretary General Msgr. Bernardo Pantin issued a separate statement reaffirming the Church's stance on political neutrality. He clarified that the Church does not endorse specific candidates but rather offers guidelines to help the faithful make informed choices based on moral and social teachings. Msgr. Pantin urged the public to exercise discernment when encountering such social media posts and to consider any supposed Church endorsements as false or misleading.
