Cargo Ship Capsizes Near Scarborough Shoal; 13 Filipino Crew Members Rescued

Scarborough: A Singaporean-flagged cargo vessel carrying Filipino crew members capsized near the Scarborough Shoal, also known as Bajo de Masinloc.

According to Philippines News Agency, the Chinese Embassy in Manila reported that a maritime search and rescue center in Hainan Province received a notification of the incident involving a foreign cargo vessel. The ship, which capsized 55 nautical miles northwest of Scarborough Shoal, had a total of 21 crew members on board-all of whom are Filipino nationals.

The Chinese Embassy stated that the China Coast Guard promptly dispatched two vessels to the site for search and rescue operations. The embassy confirmed that 13 crew members were successfully rescued as of 1:34 a.m. on Friday, with rescue operations still ongoing to locate the remaining crew members.
