Manila: The Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) has called upon the clergy to offer special prayers for peace in the Middle East. This appeal was made on Thursday in response to the ongoing unrest in the region.

According to Philippines News Agency, Bishop Socrates Mesiona, who chairs the CBCP - Episcopal Commission for the Pastoral Care of Migrants and Itinerant People, issued a statement urging diocesan migrant offices and parishes to integrate prayers for peace into Sunday Masses or through dedicated adoration hours. Mesiona emphasized the power of prayer as demonstrated by the Church's consistent efforts to intercede for peace in times of violence.

In his statement, Mesiona also highlighted the need for clergy to follow the situation of families of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) and provide pastoral care. This involves various forms of support, including spiritual guidance, sacramental ministry, community outreach, and collaboration with local Caritas and government units to address both immediate and long-term needs.

The CBCP acknowledged the efforts made by the Philippine government to ensure the safety and welfare of OFWs affected by the conflict. Mesiona commended the government's work and expressed gratitude for their collaboration with the Church in offering moral and spiritual support to OFWs and their families.
