CDO prioritizes connectivity in hinterland barangays

The local government is prioritizing Internet connectivity in remote barangays to enhance public service delivery. During Thursday's "Department in Focus" series, Zelfred Anthony Cocon, manager of the City Management Information System and Innovation Department (CMISID), said that providing free Internet access in remote communities is a key step in engaging residents and addressing their needs. 'This is part of Mayor Rolando Uy's digital transformation initiatives, which focus on offering free Wi-Fi connections in barangay centers,' Cocon said. The Department of Information and Communications Technology supports the city's digital transformation efforts, which also include streamlining bureaucratic processes in City Hall to speed up transactions between offices and clients, he added. Cagayan de Oro's digital initiatives have earned it sixth place in the innovation category of the 2024 Cities and Municipalities Competitiveness Index for Highly Urbanized Cities, along with seventh place in the Government Efficiency Pillar Source: Philippines News agency
