Cebu City police assures no ‘narco money’ in May 9 polls

The local police has assured that no “narco money” will circulate in this capital city during the May 9 national and local elections.

In a radio interview, Lt. Col. Wilbert Parilla, Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) deputy director for operations, said although there is no information yet about drug personalities openly supporting politicians running for public posts, the station commanders are on alert about “narco money” which may be used to buy votes.

“So far, we don’t have information that would lead us to believe that proceeds of illegal drug trade will be used during the campaign,” Parilla said.

However, he said the city police is not discounting the possibility that drug peddlers may approach politicians.

“Although such possibility is extreme,” station commanders must be on guard, he added.

Parilla’s remarks came after the City Drug Enforcement Unit reported CCPO’s biggest drug haul on Saturday and the arrest of a food delivery rider and his cousin along Panganiban St.

Authorities seized Shelljay Centino Cuyno and Dennis Centino, both 24, of Barangay Ermita.

The illegal drugs were believed to be shabu weighing 5.12 kilos and worth about PHP35 million.

Although the anti-drug sting was the product of a follow-up operation based on information supplied by a previously arrested drug suspect, Parilla noted that the volume of shabu being seized is getting bigger.
