Manila: Gokongwei-led carrier Cebu Pacific (CEB) marked its 20th year in Hong Kong by paying tribute to overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) and recognizing at least five outstanding ones. Edna Fontanilla, Vilma Manganaan, Melita Garibay, Dante Berido, and Rita Blanchard each received a plaque of recognition and a complimentary international roundtrip ticket during the 'Gawad Parangal Para sa Bagong Bayani' ceremony on Sunday. They were chosen for exemplifying the airline's values such as integrity, service, trust, courage, and the best of Filipino spirit.
According to Philippines News Agency, 'OFWs have been with us from the very beginning. They're not only our most loyal customers but also a part of the Cebu Pacific family. This tribute is our way of thanking them for the big roles they play in our journey and our nation's progress," said Candice Iyog, CEB chief marketing and customer experience officer, in a statement on Monday. It was the first time the award, traditionally given to CEB employees, was extended to the public, according to the airline.
Philippine Alliance chair Dante Berido expressed that being recognized for their efforts gives a deep sense of pride. Philippine Alliance, the largest Filipino community in Hong Kong, hosted the awards night. "It means a lot to be seen, valued, and celebrated -- not just as workers, but as people who make a difference," Berido said.
Meanwhile, CEB continues to invest in dedicated initiatives for OFWs, such as the upcoming OFW Processing Center at Mactan-Cebu International Airport, as well as ongoing collaborations with the Department of Migrant Workers and partner non-government organizations. The airline also recently launched Juan Flight Closer to Home, a campaign offering various engineering roles and relocation support for OFWs.
