Chinese kidnap victim with POGO links freed: PNP

Manila: The Chinese national who was recently kidnapped in Bulacan province and has alleged links to Philippine Offshore Gaming Operator (POGO) hubs was released "somewhere in Manila", the Philippine National Police (PNP) said on Wednesday. In a press conference held at Camp Crame, Quezon City, PNP spokesperson, Brig. Gen. Jean Fajardo, said the victim has underwent medical examination and is currently undergoing debriefing by the PNP Anti-Kidnapping Group (AKG). 'He was released around 12:05 a.m. (Wednesday). He was also able to visit his wife who gave birth early Wednesday morning," Fajardo added. Fajardo said the police probers are searching for closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras in the area where the victim was released for possible clues and evidence. "We already have persons of interest but we have to defer to the AKG's backtracking and investigation. They are also interviewing the victims and if you will remember, the family initially paid a ransom worth more or less PHP5 million," she added. Fajardo said they are looking at the victim's possible POGO links as the motive for the crime. The victim was fishing with other compatriots along Angat River in Bustos town when they were approached by four men who introduced themselves as "persons in authority." on the early hours of Oct. 20. Initial reports showed the victim is indebted to a certain Yuzhi Wang worth around PHP15 million. The victim was previously abducted in Clark, Pampanga in 2020 and paid a ransom of PHP1 million.
