Quezon city: Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Gen. Nicolas Torre III announced the arrest of Wang Dan Yu, alias Bao Long, a Chinese national wanted for fatally shooting his compatriot in Makati City last October.
According to Philippines News Agency, Wang was apprehended around 12:30 a.m. on July 19 in Bongao, Tawi-Tawi, after attempting to re-enter the Philippines through the southern backdoor. Intelligence reports indicated that he was on a speedboat from another country when authorities executed a warrant issued by a Makati City court.
On October 17, 2024, Wang was involved in an altercation that led to the shooting of Liu Jiabin in a Makati City restaurant. The incident was captured on CCTV and widely circulated online. The Philippine government had previously issued a PHP2 million bounty for information leading to Wang's capture.
"The PNP have ways to monitor individuals and control the situation," Torre stated. "We tracked and monitored his plans until we learned he was returning. We arrested him the moment he set foot on Philippine soil."
Further investigations revealed that Wang is allegedly the mastermind behind a kidnapping incident involving a 14-year-old Chinese student in Taguig City and the abduction of a Chinese acupuncturist in Manila in 2022. However, the charges related to these cases were dropped as the victims did not cooperate with authorities.
"Despite Bao Long initially evading justice, now that he is in our custody, we will do everything to ensure he does not escape again," Torre emphasized. Wang is currently detained at Camp Crame in Quezon City.
Additionally, Torre addressed misinformation regarding a viral social media post about a Chinese murder victim in Kawit, Cavite, clarifying that the incident occurred in 2022 and was being misrepresented as recent.
In a related matter, the PNP countered China's safety risk advisory warning its students about potential dangers in the Philippines. Torre argued that Chinese nationals often fall victim to crimes perpetrated by their compatriots, suggesting that the advisory is part of a narrative without factual basis.
"We respect the opinion of the Chinese official," Torre stated, "but it's clear that the conflicts here involve Chinese nationals as both victims and perpetrators. We will not allow our country to be used as a battleground for these conflicts."
