CICC and NBI Join Forces to Tackle Cybercrime

Manila: The Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center (CICC) has partnered with the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) in a joint crackdown against online criminal activities and to strengthen the country's cyber defense system. In a statement, CICC Undersecretary Renato "Aboy" Paraiso announced that both entities have pledged to collaborate in developing policies, leading cybercrime investigations, conducting and sharing research, and pooling resources to enhance the nation's cybersecurity framework.

According to Philippines News Agency, Paraiso emphasized the need to outsmart cybercriminals by adopting a proactive and aggressive approach to safeguarding the digital space for Filipinos. The partnership with the NBI is seen as a strategic move to bolster government response and maintain an edge over cybercriminals by reinforcing the government's technology-driven capabilities.

"This collaboration is about combining our strengths, expertise, and resources to build a safer digital space for every Filipino," Paraiso stated. "By working together, we can respond better to cyber threats, improve public awareness, and ensure that those who exploit technology for criminal activities are brought to justice."

Paraiso highlighted that while digital platforms have empowered industries and individuals, they have also provided opportunities for unscrupulous actors to exploit, deceive, and steal from unsuspecting users. To date, the CICC has addressed cases involving online scams, illegal online gambling, online sexual abuse or exploitation of children, and child sexual abuse or exploitation materials.
