CIDG nabs 54 suspects in 1-day anti-crime ops

The Philippine National Police - Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (PNP-CIDG) has arrested 54 persons in the intensified one-day anti-criminality operations across the country, which led to the recovery and confiscation of several pieces of evidence and the suppression of illegal activities.

In a statement on Monday, CIDG chief Brig. Gen. Romeo Caramat said 43 operations were conducted on March 30, resulting in the apprehension of 54 individuals and the seizure of evidence worth PHP57,813.

Caramat said 30 wanted persons were apprehended under Oplan Pagtugis, consisting of one most wanted person (MWP) at the national level, four regional MWPs, two provincial MWPs, and one municipal/city MWP, as well as 22 others categorized as other wanted persons.

Under Oplan Paglalansag Omega, or the campaign against loose firearms, six police operations resulted in the arrest of six suspects, the confiscation of five firearms of different calibers, and the surrender of one explosive device.

In the campaign against illegal gambling, 12 offenders were arrested during the six operations while PHP6,733 worth of cash bet was seized.

Meanwhile, two operations under the Oplan Megashopper, or the campaign against smuggling and manufacturing, distribution, and trading of counterfeit items, led to the arrest of two violators and pieces of evidence worth PHP51,080.

Under other law enforcement activities, four were arrested in one police operation.

“These (numbers) serve as proof that the CIDG is serious about implementing its flagship programs. We will not cease in our battle against criminality until security is ensured and peace is achieved,” Caramat said.
