Quezon: The Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) has confirmed the issuance of subpoenas to individuals implicated in a multi-billion-peso flood control scandal. This move is part of an ongoing investigation into allegations of corruption and mismanagement within the flood control projects.
According to Philippines News Agency, CIDG director Maj. Gen. Robert Alexander Morico II announced that the subpoenas were issued following a directive from acting Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Lt. Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. The directive calls for full cooperation and support for the Independent Commission on Infrastructure's (ICI) investigation. Morico emphasized that the issuance of subpoenas aligns with the CIDG's investigative mandate under Republic Act No. 10973, which grants the authority to summon individuals involved in the case.
Republic Act 10973 empowers the CIDG director to issue subpoenas and pursue cases of indirect contempt in regional trial courts if respondents fail to comply. While Morico refrained from identifying the individuals who have been subpoenaed, he indicated that the ICI would provide further details as the investigation progresses.
The initiative follows a closed-door command conference held at Camp Crame in Quezon City on November 12, involving the PNP, the ICI, and other government agencies. The conference aimed to coordinate efforts in addressing the issues surrounding the flood control projects and ensuring accountability for any wrongdoing.
