City LGU Confers SM Exec Adopted Daughter, Honorary Mayor Titles

Iloilo City: The city government conferred the title of Adopted Daughter and second Honorary Mayor of Iloilo City on Teresita Sy-Coson, vice chairperson of SM Investments Corporation and chairperson of BDO Unibank, in a ceremony on Thursday. Mayor Jerry Tre±as, together with incoming mayor Raisa Tre±as-Chu and members of the Sangguniang Panlungsod, awarded the distinctions, citing Sy-Coson's long-standing role in supporting the city's economic development.

According to Philippines News Agency, her title as adopted daughter was mandated under Executive Order (EO) 114, signed by Tre±as on August 20, 2024, while EO 042, dated May 14, 2025, declared her as the second honorary mayor of Iloilo City. As a key figure in SM Investments Corporation, one of the largest conglomerates in the Philippines, Sy-Coson's influence and contributions to Iloilo City's development have paved the way for further investments, drawing the attention of visionaries and entrepreneurs alike.

SM's relationship with Iloilo began with its first mall outside Manila on Delgado Street, later expanding with SM City Iloilo in 1999. Since then, SM's presence has grown to include BPO offices, banks, and residential developments, including the Kauswagan Residences - Iloilo's first vertical socialized housing project.

Sy-Coson, who said she has visited Iloilo for nearly 50 years, pledged continued investment and community support, calling Iloilo 'one of the main cities we have adopted.' 'Through the years, I have seen how Mayor Tre±as has been able to develop Iloilo, and we really appreciate what is here. And we are ever ready to support the mayor on the endeavor,' she said.
