City Police Gear Up for Simbang Gabi and Dinagyang Festival’s Pamukaw

Iloilo city: The Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) is ready for the start of the Simbang Gabi that coincides with the 'Pamukaw' of the 2026 Dinagyang Festival on Tuesday. In a media interview on Monday, ICPO director Col. Kim Legada said they will be deploying patrollers in Catholic churches, despite not having recorded any untoward incidents during past celebrations.

According to Philippines News Agency, Legada said local police units have activated Police Assistance Desks (PADs) in churches and key areas, enhanced their intelligence monitoring, and mobilized force multipliers to help maintain peace and security. He said all police units have been directed to strengthen security operations, ensure orderly traffic flow, and maintain close coordination with church leaders, barangay officials, and event organizers.

'Our commitment is to safeguard every Ilonggo and visitor during these significant celebrations. Through intensified police presence and the cooperation of the community, we are confident that Simbang Gabi and the Dinagyang 2026 Pamukaw will remain safe, peaceful, and orderly,' he added. Legada also urged the public to be safety conscious when leaving their homes.

"I just would like to appeal to the public who will be going to churches to secure their things, make sure to secure their houses when leaving," he said. The public is enjoined to report suspicious individuals or activities through 911 or the ICPO hotline numbers 0908-377-0194 and 335-0299.
