Manila: The Civil Aeronautics Board (CAB) has announced the implementation of a Level 12 fuel surcharge for the period of August 16-31, marking a decrease of one notch from Level 13, which was applicable during the first half of the month.

According to Philippines News Agency, under the new Level 12, the fuel surcharge for domestic flights could range from PHP389 to PHP1,137, while international flights may see charges from PHP1,284.80 to PHP9,550.13, depending on the distance traveled. This adjustment contrasts with the previous Level 13 surcharge, where domestic flights incurred charges ranging from PHP423 to PHP1,237, and international flights faced fees from PHP1,396.74 to PHP10,385.42.

The fuel surcharge is an additional fee that airlines may collect on top of the base fare to offset the costs resulting from fluctuations in oil prices. The government has established a 15-day price monitoring and implementation cycle for fuel surcharge imposition to help mitigate the financial impact of rising fuel prices on air travel costs.

In an advisory, the CAB noted that the applicable exchange rate for calculating fuel surcharges is PHP61.30 per United States dollar.
