Eastern visayas: Several local government units (LGUs) in Eastern Visayas have suspended classes on Thursday due to heavy rains dumped by Tropical Depression Crising. These areas include the towns of Naval, Almeria, Culaba, Cabucgayan, Kawayan, and Caibiran in Biliran province, as well as Baybay City, Matalom, Matag-ob, Palompon, Villaba, Tabango, and Leyte towns in Leyte province.
According to Philippines News Agency, apart from the suspension of classes, tourism-related activities have also been halted in major island destinations in Leyte province due to the adverse weather conditions. The affected tourist spots include Kalanggaman Island, Cuatro Islas, and Canigao Island in Leyte.
The tropical depression has also led to the suspension of sea travel, resulting in 60 trucks being stranded at the ports of Maasin, Benito, and Padre Burgos in Southern Leyte province, as reported by the Philippine Coast Guard Eastern Visayas district.
The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) has issued warnings of potential landslides and flooding due to expected moderate to heavy rainfall in the region. This warning is particularly pertinent to major rivers and tributaries across Eastern Visayas, including those in Biliran province, Leyte, Eastern Samar, Southern Leyte, Northern Samar, and Samar province.
As of Thursday noon, the center of Tropical Depression Crising was located approximately 520 km east northeast of Juban, Sorsogon, or 470 km east northeast of Virac, Catanduanes, with heavy to intense rainfall anticipated to continue across the Eastern Visayas region.
