Negros oriental: The Coast Guard in Negros Oriental has increased its personnel deployment at various ports starting Thursday to manage the expected surge of travelers during the holiday season. Lt. Marionne Abigal Enopia, Coast Guard Station Negros Oriental commander, mentioned in an interview with the Philippine News Agency that the security measures were initiated two days earlier than planned, as travelers have already begun arriving in the province.

According to Philippines News Agency, the operations, originally scheduled to start on Saturday under the Oplan Ligtas Byaheng Pasko, were advanced upon the directive of district commander Commodore Christopher Auro to enhance the effectiveness of the security plan. The Coast Guard has established Malasakit help desks and deployed K-9 sniffing dogs at passenger terminals in cooperation with the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA).

Lt. Enopia also shared that arrangements are underway with the Red Cross to station volunteers at the city port to address any emergencies that may arise. Furthermore, the Coast Guard has reinforced its policy against the departure of overloaded passenger ships or motor bancas, ensuring shipping companies are informed about the specific number of tickets for each journey.

Daily 'Baywatch' personnel and maritime patrols will be conducted along coastal areas, particularly in tourist hotspots such as Dauin and Apo Island. The patrols are also vigilant against potential smuggling activities, especially in the province's southern regions.
