Coast Guard Negros Oriental Enhances Fleet with New and Repaired Boats

Dumaguete: The Philippine Coast Guard in Negros Oriental is bolstering its fleet by deploying additional floating assets to strengthen maritime security and disaster response efforts in the region. Lt. Marionne Abigal Enopia, commander of Coast Guard Station Negros Oriental, announced significant upgrades to their operational capabilities.

According to Philippines News Agency, three aluminum boats have recently undergone repairs, and three new units are set to arrive soon to provide further support. Enopia confirmed that the refurbished boats have successfully passed sea trials and will be deployed immediately upon verification of their operational readiness. These assets are expected to enhance the Coast Guard's ability to conduct regular maritime patrols, search and rescue missions, and other essential operations.

Historically, the Coast Guard in Negros Oriental relied on rented private motor bancas for maritime patrols. Prior to the recent repairs, the provincial Coast Guard's resources were limited to two rubber boats, primarily designed for search-and-rescue activities. The inclusion of aluminum boats marks a significant improvement in their operational fleet.

Enopia expressed appreciation for the support from the Provincial Peace and Order Council, which has allocated necessary fuel for the Coast Guard operations. In a related development, the city council has approved Mayor Manuel Sagarbarria's proposal to purchase three aluminum boats for the Coast Guard, a move expected to significantly enhance their disaster response and maritime security capabilities.
