Comelec-Antique to Fine 5 Candidates for Failure to Submit SOCE

Antique: Five candidates who ran for various posts in Antique during the May 12 midterm elections will be slapped with fines for failure to submit their Statements of Campaign Expenditures (SOCE), according to the Commission on Elections (Comelec) in the province.

According to Philippines News Agency, those who did not submit their campaign expenditure statements until the June 11 deadline were Rodelo Pidoy, who ran for governor, and Romeo Genovata Jr., Perigrino Reponte Jr., Martin Galin, and Archibald Dax Pacificador for board members.

Comelec-Antique Election Supervisor Wil Arce±o said in an interview Tuesday that they are determining how many times the candidates failed to file SOCE before. The Comelec Political Finance and Affairs Department would be sending letters of notice to the candidates after the determination.

Candidates who failed to file SOCE for the first time will be fined PHP30,000 for congressional representative, PHP25,000 for governor and vice governor, PHP20,000 for provincial board, PHP10,000 for mayor and vice mayor, and PHP10,000 for municipal councilor. Local candidates who fail to submit their SOCE for the second time could face disqualification from holding elective and appointive positions, aside from paying double the fine mandated for the first violation.
