Comelec Confirms Eric Yap as Benguet Representative

Benguet: The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has officially ordered the proclamation of Eric Yap as the representative of Benguet's lone district, following the May 12 elections. This decision comes after a series of legal proceedings that culminated with the Certificate of Finality and Entry of Judgement issued on July 2.

According to Philippines News Agency, the June 26 ruling that dismissed the petition filed by Franklin Tino became immediately executory when Tino failed to submit a Motion for Reconsideration. The Certificate of Finality emphasized that without a restraining order from the Supreme Court, the resolution by Comelec's Second Division was to be considered final and executory.

The Entry of Judgement further solidified the June 26 decision, instructing Benguet's Provincial Board of Canvassers to reconvene and declare Yap as the winner of the local election. The resolution confirmed Yap's eligibility for the position, dismissing Tino's allegations regarding Yap's citizenship and residency, which claimed Yap was not a natural-born Filipino and had primarily resided in China.

This proclamation marks the end of the electoral race in Benguet, with Yap set to assume his responsibilities as a member of the House of Representatives.
