Comelec Declares Simultaneous BSKE and Bangsamoro Polls Infeasible

Manila: The Commission on Elections (Comelec) announced that conducting the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) alongside the Bangsamoro Parliamentary Elections (BPE) is not feasible.

According to Philippines News Agency, Comelec Chairperson George Garcia explained in an interview that the two elections require different systems, with the BPE being automated and the BSKE conducted manually. Garcia highlighted that while organizing both elections on the same date might appear cost-effective, the varying systems involved present significant challenges.

Garcia emphasized the complexity of managing two different election systems simultaneously, stating, "It is difficult to have two systems running in the same election." He further explained the differences in voter bases, noting that BPE voters are those registered as of May 2025, whereas BSKE voters are registered as of the Nov. 2 elections.

Moreover, Garcia mentioned that separating the elections would allow stakeholders to concentrate on each electoral process individually. Both elections are scheduled for this year, with the BPE on March 30 and the BSKE on Nov. 2.
