Manila: The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has announced a three-day extension for the enrollment period of overseas Filipino voters who wish to participate in the May 2025 midterm elections via the Online Voting and Counting System (OVCS).
According to Philippines News Agency, the Comelec en banc issued Minute Resolution No. 25-0544, moving the deadline for online voting enrollment from May 7 to May 10. The resolution stated that the extension aims to accommodate the "multiple requests" for more time from various Filipino communities abroad, thereby encouraging more participation.
As of May 3, the total number of enrollees for the OVCS pre-voting stood at 134,474, which represents only 11.01% of the total registered overseas voters of 1,220,942 under OVCS Posts. The extension seeks to increase this number significantly.
The Comelec emphasized the importance of pre-voting enrollment, which began on March 20, 2025, as it is a prerequisite for overseas voters to cast their votes via the online system. Interested overseas voters are urged to enroll by visiting the link https://ov.comelec.gov.ph/enroll.
The poll body hopes that the extension will provide ample opportunity for more overseas Filipinos to participate in the upcoming elections, ensuring a more inclusive electoral process.
