Manila: The Commission on Elections (Comelec) announced Thursday that Miru Systems, leading a joint venture, has successfully completed the manufacture and production of over 100,000 automated counting machines (ACMs) for the upcoming May 2025 midterm elections. According to Philippines News Agency, the final unit of the ACMs was produced at Miru's South Korean facility two months ahead of the December deadline. This accomplishment marks the completion of the Full Automation with Transparency Audit and Count (FASTrAC) project, which involved manufacturing 110,620 ACMs. Comelec data reveals that 78,456 ACMs are already secured in storage at the commission's warehouse located in Biñan, Laguna. Meanwhile, the remaining 32,164 units are at various stages, including clearing at the Bureau of Customs in the Philippines, transit from South Korea, or loading at a South Korean port. The commission noted that Miru JV has consistently surpassed milestones ahead of schedule, not only in the production and delivery of ACMs but also in the supply of related peripherals. Miru has already supplied external batteries, power cords, SD cards, thermal paper, and smartcards for the Electoral Board, among other election materials. Additionally, other essential election equipment such as servers, printers, and laptops for vote consolidation and canvassing, modems/USB kits for vote transmission, and headsets for voters with disabilities are already in the country. The FASTrAC project, awarded to the South Korean firm, is valued at over PHP17 billion and aims to automate the forthcoming electoral process.
