Comelec Orders Antique Candidates to Remove Illegal Campaign Posters

Antique: The Commission on Elections (Comelec) in Antique has given local candidates a three-day deadline to voluntarily remove illegal or oversized campaign posters, warning of possible charges for violating Republic Act 9006, known as the Fair Elections Act. Comelec-Western Visayas Acting Assistant Director and concurrent Provincial Election Supervisor Wil Arce±o emphasized the importance of adhering to election guidelines.

According to Philippines News Agency, Arce±o stated that several candidates have yet to comply with previous reminders issued after the second week of the local campaign period. He has sent notices to these candidates, instructing them to take down their non-compliant posters within three days, or they will be reported to the Legal Division for potential election offense charges.

From March 28 to April 3, the Comelec-Antique dismantled 6,068 posters that were either oversized, exceeding the 2x3 feet size limit, or placed outside designated common poster areas. Arce±o assured that weekly 'Operation Baklas' (take down) drives will continue, and the confiscated materials will serve as evidence.

Comelec has also appealed to candidates to lower the volume of their mobile sound systems and limit campaign activities to reasonable hours, addressing complaints from residents, particularly those with medical conditions. Arce±o noted that the sound system setup is unique to Antique and is not a common practice in other provinces in Western Visayas.
