Comelec Proclaims Bagong Henerasyon Party-List as Election Winner

Manila: The Commission on Elections (Comelec), acting as the National Board of Canvassers, has declared Bagong Henerasyon as one of the victors in the May 12 midterm elections, securing a seat in the House of Representatives.

According to Philippines News Agency, the group received a total of 319,803 votes, which qualifies them for a single seat in the legislative body. The Certificate of Proclamation (COP) indicates that First Nominee Roberto Gerard Nazal Jr. will represent Bagong Henerasyon in the 20th Congress, serving for a term of three years until June 30, 2028.

Comelec Chairperson George Garcia stated that the COP was officially handed over to Bagong Henerasyon president Rochelle Custodio and secretary general Bernadette Banto at the session hall of the Comelec head office located in Intramuros, Manila. Garcia noted that the presentation did not involve any ceremony.

The proclamation of Bagong Henerasyon came a day following the Comelec en banc's issuance of a Certificate of Finality and Entry of Judgment concerning a disqualification case against the party-list and its nominees. Last week, the Comelec en banc dismissed a motion for reconsideration submitted by lawyer Russel Stanley Geronimo. Geronimo aimed to disqualify the group from the party-list race but his motion was denied after the Comelec First Division rejected his petition due to non-compliance with mandatory requirements. The Comelec initially suspended Bagong Henerasyon's proclamation pending the resolution of the petition.
