Comelec Surpasses Target of 1M Voter Registrants for Upcoming Elections

Manila: The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has surpassed its target of one million new registrants for the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE). Comelec Chairperson George Garcia announced that they reached the 1-million mark on Wednesday. "Based on our estimate, we have more than one million (new registrants) after five days of [voters'] registration..." he said in an interview Wednesday. "We were surprised but we are very happy because in five days, we have more than one million."

According to Philippines News Agency, Comelec acknowledged other government agencies and the private sector for the successful collaboration that contributed to this achievement. As of the latest data, a total of 1,001,970 applications have been received since August 1, marking the start of the 10-day registration period.

Calabarzon (Region 4-A) recorded the highest number of applicants at 138,843, followed by Central Luzon (Region 3) with 123,904, and the National Capital Region with 79,517.
