Comelec to Announce 64th Party-List Representative for 20th Congress Next Week

Manila: The Commission on Elections (Comelec) is preparing to announce the 64th party-list representative for the 20th Congress in the upcoming week. This decision follows the need to fill the required 20 percent party-list composition of the Lower House, which was not met during the May 2025 elections.

According to Philippines News Agency, Comelec Chairperson George Garcia stated that the announcement for the additional lawmaker might occur by September 18. In a recent interview, Garcia mentioned that the Law Department and the Supervisory Group of the National Board of Canvassers have already put forward their recommendations for the immediate proclamation of the 64th party-list nominee.

Previously, Comelec had indicated the necessity of proclaiming another winning party-list representative to meet the legislative requirements. However, the specific party-list group has not been revealed as the commission awaits a final ruling.

Garcia highlighted that the finality of the decision regarding the Duterte Youth party-list is expected by September 30. The Certificate of Finality will be issued post this date. The Comelec en banc had earlier confirmed the cancellation of the registration of the Duterte Youth party-list, which won three seats in the House of Representatives during the May 2025 elections. The Duterte Youth has since approached the Supreme Court to prevent the implementation of Comelec's ruling.
