Manila: The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has announced plans to proclaim the winner of the August 29, 2026, special election for the representative of Cavite's 4th Legislative District a day after the polls.

According to Philippines News Agency, Comelec Chairperson George Garcia confirmed that the proclamation of the newly elected member of the House of Representatives is expected to take place early in the morning on August 30. During a press conference held at the Socio-Economic Building in Dasmari±as City, Cavite, Garcia stated, "We expect to make a proclamation early morning of Aug. 30, maybe around 5:00 a.m."

The special election, scheduled for August 29, will have voting hours from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. for regular voters, while members of vulnerable sectors will be allowed to vote from 5 a.m. to 7 a.m. Garcia mentioned that the City Board of Canvassers is expected to commence the canvassing of votes by 6 p.m.

Dasmari±as City, home to 447,387 registered voters, will see five candidates vying for the legislative position. The election is necessitated by the vacancy left by Rep. Francisco Barzaga Jr., who was removed from office in June due to "disorderly behavior, conduct unbecoming of a member, and violations of the House Code of Conduct." The budget for the special election is PHP198 million, with PHP50 million provided by the local government unit.

Candidates in the race include Raul Rex Del Rosario Mangubat, Marvin Opamin Dupal-ag, Leysander Aguilar Ordenes, Jacinto Bautista Frani Jr., and Dasmari±as City Mayor Jennifer Barzaga.
