Comelec-Zambo to set up isolation polling area

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) will set up an isolation voting place for those suspected to have been infected with the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) during the May 9 national and local elections.

Lawyer Stephen Roy Cañete, first district election officer, said Wednesday this was based on the recommendation of the Department of Health (DOH) to protect the voters from the virus on election day.

“The isolated voting is a mitigating tool recommended by the DOH to prevent the spread of infection among voters who will crowd the different polling precincts during the day of elections,” Cañete said.

Cañete said that the designation of isolation voting precincts will be done nationwide on May 9 national and local polls.

The Comelec, in partnership with the DOH and the City Health Office, will first screen the voters before they will be allowed to enter the polling precinct.

“If their body temperature is high, they will be directed to go to the isolation polling place to cast their votes,” Cañete said.

Voters should comply with the minimum health protocols while casting their votes on May 9, he said, noting that this is the first time the election is held under a pandemic condition.
