Manila: The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) has received a significant donation of 600 computer sets from Concentrix Philippines (CNX). These computers are destined for schools in underserved communities, aiming to bridge the digital divide and enhance educational opportunities for students in these areas.
According to Philippines News Agency, DICT Secretary Henry Aguda expressed gratitude towards CNX for their support in the "Digital Bayanihan" initiative. This effort aligns with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s directive to ensure connectivity across all schools in the nation. Aguda emphasized the importance of cooperation, stating, "Bayanihan (cooperation) means heroes coming together and working towards a common goal. Thank you for being heroes by investing in our future, our youth."
The contribution forms part of CNX's 'Gadgets for Good' program, which is designed to furnish thousands of computers to Filipino youth, particularly in remote and underserved regions. This initiative is a key element of Concentrix's corporate social responsibility efforts as a global provider of customer experience solutions and technology.
Aguda highlighted the significance of this donation, noting, "This effort ensures that the youth are equipped with the tools and skills needed for them to rise to the challenges of the digital era." Since the program's inception in 2024, Concentrix has donated 1,050 computer systems to schools in geographically isolated and disadvantaged areas, where access to computers and connectivity is limited.
During the turnover ceremony held on Monday, Amit Jagga, CNX's executive vice president, pledged continued support for the initiative. He remarked, "A thousand (computers) is nothing in the scale of things, especially in the Philippines. Thousands, and maybe tens of thousands of computers to come." Jagga emphasized that this donation represents an investment in talent development for Filipinos residing in rural regions.
He further explained, "We cannot just compete in talent development and acquisition in the metro. We would like to expand and develop the skills of our youth in the countryside so that we can bridge the digital divide while uplifting the digital skills of Filipinos needed by our clients."
