Contractor Sally Santos Surrenders P15M to Government

Manila: The Department of Justice on Monday announced that Sally Santos, the owner of SYMS Construction Trading, has returned PHP15 million to the government.

According to Philippines News Agency, DOJ spokesperson Polo Martinez stated that the amount was part of a memorandum of agreement (MOA) between the government and applicant witnesses in the investigation of anomalous flood control projects. "I just received word that the armored vehicles that arrived earlier today carried the amount of more or less PHP15 million as part of the partial restitution by Sally Santos pursuant to the terms of her MOA," Martinez said during an interview with reporters.

Santos revealed during legislative inquiries that she had lent her licenses to Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) engineers for use in projects, receiving a 3 percent "royalty" fee in return. However, she maintained that she was unaware these licenses would be used for fraudulent projects.
