Manila: Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Jonvic Remulla has made a firm commitment to prosecute any officers of the Philippine National Police (PNP) found engaging in partisan politics. Remulla emphasized his intention to ensure due process is observed in such cases, underscoring his low tolerance for misconduct within the PNP.
According to Philippines News Agency, Remulla cited previous cases pursued by the DILG against officers involved in a significant drug bust in Tondo, Manila in 2022, as evidence of his commitment to addressing malfeasance. The cases in question were reviewed promptly, leading to the imprisonment of those involved. Remulla stressed that similar actions would be taken against any officers engaged in political partisanship.
PNP chief Gen. Rommel Francisco Marbil echoed Remulla's sentiments, asserting that the police force remains apolitical and impartial, with a focus solely on maintaining peace and order. Marbil assured that the PNP leadership does not condone political partisanship within its ranks.
Furthermore, Remulla expressed full support for the 'Kontra Bigay' campaign, an initiative by the Commission on Elections (Comelec) aimed at combating vote buying. He advocated for a complementary 'Kontra Tanggap' drive, addressing the issue of vote buying as a national cultural phenomenon that requires comprehensive action.
