Basud: Police have yet to determine the motive behind the killing of a woman whose body was found inside a storage box in Basud, Camarines Norte earlier this week. Acting Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Lt. Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. reported that investigators are pursuing several leads to establish the circumstances of the incident. "As of now, the investigation is ongoing. There were leads to be checked as to the possible motive pero hindi pa natin ma-confirm lahat (but we can't confirm anything yet)," he said in a statement.

According to Philippines News Agency, the victim was identified as Anelis Agocoy, 37, of Barangay Bura, Catarman, Camiguin. The suspect, reportedly Agocoy's live-in partner, surrendered to authorities in Rosario, Batangas, on Wednesday morning. In a press briefing in Camp Crame on Thursday, Basud police chief Capt. Mark Anthony Armea stated that a post-mortem examination showed no signs of struggle on the victim's body, indicating that Agocoy died of asphyxia by suffocation.

Lt. Col. Ronie Siriban, Rosario police chief, disclosed that the suspect admitted to having an argument with Agocoy, during which she lost consciousness after he pushed her. "Statement niya nung sumuko siya sa Rosario, Batangas, ang kuwento niya sa amin nung dumating siya, tinulak niya 'yung babae, nauntog daw at pinipilit niya iangat eh wala na daw malay (His statement when he surrendered in Rosario, Batangas is that she fell down and lost consciousness after he pushed her)," Siriban said during the same briefing. However, Siriban noted that the suspect, a security guard with no prior criminal record, could not explain how Agocoy's body ended up in Basud.

Nartatez emphasized that the PNP is 'working diligently to uncover the full circumstances surrounding this tragic incident.'
